I’ve been rather busy lately. Just finished Shovell, the training app for Ruby on Rails 2. Its pretty nifty actually, but quite unpolished. If I were to make this a live app I’d have to add quite a few features to get it up to par.

I’ve since moved on to the geekoids.com database. Its probably the most complex application that I’ve ever worked on. Four database tables, two separate user groups, time tracking, and invoice and customer management! Its going to be awesome. I might make an open source version of it, it would be pretty useful for any company that’s in the “business services” sector- especially independent IT companies. I’ll go into detail of what I’ve done when I finish the code.

The current website that we’re working on is a small Bakery, resteraunt, and catering business. They’re located in Brownsville, OR but they server the whole willamette valley. The site will be up by Monday.

I’ll be anouncing that thing I said I’d announce soon. So stay tuned for that.

We’re working on some pretty big changes at my company, Brothers Grimm Studios. I can’t say anything until its all official and stuff- so sorry if anyone feels a little neglected. We’re really happy with this new direction, and we think its going to help out our customers too. Thats all that I can say about that…

In other news

Started work at Geekoids.com for the weekend today. The bench looks supprisingly clear today, I’ll have to talk to matt and see what we’re supposed to do today. I get here early on saturdays, so I take some time to write a little and wrangle my RSS feeds.

I guess I’m going to a party tonight too, its going to be a pretty good networking event for us, so thats good. But I don’t really know anyone there- supposedly they’re mostly business owners though (our target audience for Brothers Grimm). Hopefully we’ll find some clients there.

I am not sleeping

For some reason I’ve been on the verge of becoming nocturnal. I’ve been consistently going to sleep around 7am and waking up somewhere around 3:30pm. This seems to help my productivity quite a bit, but client relations seem to decline a bit. I think a trade off is in order- possibly awakening around noon and going to sleep around four. That should give me enough time during the business day to keep in touch with everyone and still have my quiet time at night.

In other news:

I just discovered LaLa.com. Its a music streaming service and a music store all built into one. You can upload your music to lala and listen to it from anywhere, which is pretty nifty if you like to listen to music at work (not that I go anywhere for work- freelancing is nice!). It also lets you buy songs to listen to online for only 10 cents. I know this doesn’t sound like that good of a deal, but when you consider that all of the other music streaming sites don’t let you choose when you want to listen to a song, or limit the amount of times that you can listen to a song, it starts to sound pretty good.

I found a cool artist, Yoav, on Pandora.com and decided that I wanted the album. So I popped into LaLa to see if they had it. They did of course, so I used eleven of my free credits (you get 50 free songs for signing up) to get it. The thing that sold me most was how immediate it was. I just clicked the “get song” button and I could listen to it right there on the spot. Not need to download it, no waiting for it to show up in my platlist- it was in my library. Awesome.

Just to give you a taste of what its like:

On the other end of life, one of the co-founders of Brothers Grimm Studios decided that the company wasn’t for him anymore. He was our accountant, but he decided to put his full attention on his Economics degree at OSU instead. I think it is probably for the best. No offense to him, but I never really thought his heart was in it, I think he was banking on the fact that we would be pulling in a lot of money from the get go. But Brothers Grimm has only been around for five months, we’re still setting policies!

That said, Brothers Grimm Studios is still doing very well. We’ve got a few clients right now, and the future looks pretty good. I am, however, more interested in karmafeed at the moment. Thats the one I’m really banking on.

I am a Web Developer,

But don’t worry, I won’t bore you with a sales pitch. This blog is here as a personal journal and record of my life. I don’t really know what direction it will take, or how long I’ll even keep this up. I’ve always thought that writing was a good way to collect your thoughts, but I’ve never been very persistent with blogs or journals. To tell you the truth, this is my fifth blogging attempt. Two of which were at this domain, one was on *gasp* Myspace, one was on *another gasp* Livejournal and yet another attempt was on *not as much of a gasp, but a gasp none the less* Facebook.

The difference this time is that I’m making no guarantees.

I am a Web Startup Founder Extraordinaire

Ideas seem to come naturally to me. I’m constantly thinking about ways to make things better. I can’t seem to stop, and I wouldn’t want to even if I could. My mom used to think that my creativity stems from my (supposed) Dyslexia. I tend to agree with her. I’m currently working on three different web apps for three completely different audiences. I’m really enjoying myself.

Oh, and speaking of my mom- I just moved back in with her to get one of these ideas off the ground. If you want an idea of what I’m working on, check out karmafeed. To give myself a little more link love - you can check out the web design studio that I co-founded with my brother: Brothers Grimm Studios, llc.
